A symposium on information technology will be held Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 in Tokyo, gathering academics and industry officials from Taiwan and Japan, the Taipei Economic and Culture Representative Office in Japan said Friday.
It will be the first meeting of its kind and is hoped to "help build a new partnership" between Japan and Taiwan, a spokesman at the office said.
Nobel laureate Lee Yuan-tseh, president of Academia Sinica, will make a key speech at the Japan-Taiwan Microelectronics International Symposium on technology in the 21st century.
Panelists such as Stan Shi, chairman of Taiwan's Acer Group, and Hajime Sasaki, chairman of NEC Corp., will speak on prospects for the various high-tech industries.
