The bereaved family of South Korean student Lee Su Hyon left Japan with his ashes Tuesday, as the 26-year-old's fatal attempt to save another man's life continued to reverberate across both countries.
Lee and Shiro Sekine, 47, a photographer from Yokohama, were killed Friday by an oncoming train after jumping onto the tracks at JR Shin-Okubo Station in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward in an attempt to rescue a man who had fallen from the platform.
Seiko Sakamoto, a 37-year-old plasterer from Saitama Prefecture, was apparently drunk when he fell onto the tracks. He was also killed. None of the three knew each other, police said.
