Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori will pledge to strive to restore public trust in politics in his policy speech to be delivered at the outset of the 150-day regular Diet session convening Wednesday, government sources said Sunday.

Mori's pledge, as well as an expression of regret, will come in the wake of allegations that members from his ruling Liberal Democratic Party received money from the scandal-hit mutual aid foundation KSD and that a senior diplomat embezzled at least 54 million yen in public funds, they said.

The government's plan to submit a package of education reform bills to the Diet, including a bill to enable the transfer of incompetent teachers to other duties, will also be introduced in Mori's speech, the sources said.
