While not as well-known as the Ameyoko shopping street to the north, Okachimachi Station's south side in Tokyo's Taito Ward has traditionally been the country's largest jewelry town.
Predominantly wholesale-only establishments, there are estimated to be about 2,000 jewelry stores and craft studios in the district.
About 65 percent of gems dealt nationwide, excluding pearls, pass through Okachimachi before reaching consumers.
