Sony Corp. recorded consolidated pretax profits of 133.42 billion yen for the third quarter of fiscal 2000, down 19.6 percent from the corresponding period the previous year, company officials said Thursday.
For the October-December period, Sony posted consolidated operating profits of 146.47 billion yen, down 10.8 percent from a year earlier, and consolidated net profits of 72.24 billion yen, down 22.8 percent.
The company attributed the declines to the yen's appreciation, reduced revenues both from its game business and from its subsidiary, Aiwa Co., and accounting changes in the United States relating to movie expenses.
