Two people who sued the government after contracting Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease for failing to inform them of the risks of contracting CJD in operations have died, their relatives said Tuesday.
Takako Tani, 46, died of pneumonia Tuesday morning at a sanitarium in Kosei, Shiga Prefecture. Tani was Japan's first CJD victim to file a damages suit against the government over the matter.
Another plaintiff was Takumi Hayashi, 32, who succumbed to CJD on Saturday at a hospital in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. He joined the suit in June last year.
