A new government panel on information technology said Monday it will compile an action plan by the end of March specifying the areas that need to be prioritized in order to give Japan one of the world's most advanced IT infrastructures in five years, government officials said.
Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori told the first meeting of the new IT strategy council that he is determined to bring about an IT revolution. Mori, who heads the council, believes it is a key factor in strengthening Japan's economic competitiveness.
"We must move forward to achieve the goal of making our country the world's most advanced IT nation in five years," he said. "With this council as a core, we will vigorously embark on the IT revolution by eliminating the harm of a rigid administrative system and uniting the powers of the public and private sectors."
