Cellular operator NTT DoCoMo Inc. announced Monday that it will start marketing on Jan. 29 a dual-mode cellular phone that can be used in Japan and much of Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
The N601wg incorporates both DoCoMo's PDC cellular system and the GSM system, a mobile phone standard widely used in Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania, the company said.
N601wg users can access international roaming services in those areas in addition to DoCoMo services in Japan.
The roaming charge for a domestic call is, for example, 28 yen per minute in Britain, 58 yen in France, 29 yen in Hong Kong and 25 yen in Australia, the company said.
