Toyomune Minamoto, a veteran historian of Japanese art, died of old age Wednesday at a hospital in Kyoto's Sakyo Ward, his family said Thursday. He was 105.
Minamoto, a native of the city of Takefu, Fukui Prefecture, held professorships at Kwansei Gakuin University and Tezukayama Gakuin University and was a member of a commission of experts to the Council for the Protection of Cultural Properties. that advises the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
He also authored and edited commentaries and books such as "Nihon Bijutsushi Nempyo," a chronology of the history of Japanese art.
A graduate of art history at Kyoto University, Minamoto was involved in the management of art magazine Bukkyo Bijutsu (Buddhist art) from 1924 to 1933.
