Cellular giant NTT DoCoMo announced Thursday two separate deals to expand its presence in Europe, agreeing with local carriers to launch Internet services similar to DoCoMo's i-mode on smart cellular phones in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Italy.
DoCoMo signed a memorandum of understanding with KPN Mobile N.V. of the Netherlands, 15 percent of which DoCoMo now owns, to set up a mobile multimedia joint venture to start services like i-mode by the end of this year through KPN's local subsidiaries in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
KPN plans to own 75 percent of the joint firm, to be established in March, and DoCoMo will hold the rest.
