Okinawa officials again urged the government Tuesday to abide by their call for a time limit on the U.S. forces' use of a new joint civilian-military airport to be built in northern Okinawa.
They also called for measures to minimize the impact of the airport on the environment.
Nago Mayor Tateo Kishimoto and Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine made the requests at the fifth meeting of a high-level panel charged with discussing plans for the civilian-military airport to be built in Nago.
The new airport is expected to take over the helicopter operations of the U.S. Marine Corp's Futenma Air Station.
Central government officials at the meeting repeated they would consider the requests, officials said.
