Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori on Sunday said he would not return to his country until after all allegations against him are cleared.

Speaking on a morning television program, Fujimori -- whose Japanese citizenship has been confirmed and who has been in Japan since November -- said he would first like to wait for the results of Peru's presidential elections slated for April and then assess the general situation.

"I would like to return when the opportunity arises after current probes conducted by such parties as the Peruvian Congress clarify that I have not amassed a fortune illegally," he said.

However, he added that he did not see this happening "in the short-term." He also reiterated that he would be willing to "fully cooperate" with questioning conducted in Japan by Peruvian authorities.
