Electronics maker NEC Corp. said Friday it has realigned its personal computer and server business based in the Californian city of Sacramento as of Jan. 1 to enhance its North America operations.
The entire stake in NEC Computers Inc., which has run the business since January last year, was transferred to NEC Technologies Inc., also based in Sacramento, from NEC Computers International B.V., headquartered in the Netherlands.
The staff of 300 at NEC Computers will be halved in two years, NEC said.
NEC said it expects the realignment to help strengthen the group's solutions business, which requires joint approaches and is seen as necessary for expanding the PC and server division.
It aims to provide industry-specific platform solutions based on mobile PCs and servers by leveraging its expertise in wireless, security and other technologies.
