Toyota Motor Corp.'s Corolla was the best-selling car in Japan in 2000, maintaining its status as the nation's favorite passenger car for the 32nd straight year, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Thursday.
Toyota sold 162,870 Corollas during the year, up 1.4 percent from the previous year.
From January to August, Corolla sales fell short of those of the Vitz, another Toyota compact, and Honda Motor Co.'s Odyssey minivan, but reclaimed the top spot in September after the sedan and wagon editions were remodeled in late August, the association said.
