Nomura Securities Co. will offer securities business seminars at Kwansei Gakuin University in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, starting in April.
The leading brokerage will send its executives and senior officials to teach the program to juniors and seniors majoring in commercial science, the company said.
Although Japanese companies currently provide funds and officials for seminars for graduate students, it is rare for a firm to do so for undergraduates.
This move by Nomura is intended to provide university students with a glimpse of the securities business by offering them the experience of those in the real business world. This will hopefully nurture future investors and entrepreneurs.
The program, titled "Prospects for Global Economy and Securities Business," will comprise 13 seminars between April and July.
It will initially focus on the function of stock markets and the role played by brokerages before moving on to more specific operations, such as strategies in the retailing business, fundraising through the issuance of new shares and the investment banking business.
The firm's securities analysts, executive officers and other officials will take turns as lecturers during the program -- depending on the theme of a given seminar.
The program will culminate in a test, the results of which can be counted as credits by the students.
Nomura, which has been promoting investor enlightenment efforts, said it is willing to consider offering similar programs if it gets requests from other universities.
