Just when the doors of the Yamanote line train are about to close at Uguisudani Station during morning rush hour, alert passengers will hear the distinctive chirp of the "uguisu," or bush warbler.
Although the bird is traditionally regarded as a harbinger of spring, at this station the warble can be heard all year round, albeit on tape, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
It's a welcome change from the chimes rung at other JR stations to signal to passengers that the train doors are closing.
