The Ministry of International Trade and Industry on Tuesday warned Samsung Japan Corp. against repeating an action it took in the 1990s involving the illegal export of goods that could be diverted for military use.
MITI sounded the warning in the name of Hirokazu Okumura, director general of the ministry's International Trade Administration Bureau, to the Japan unit of South Korea's Samsung Group.
The goods in question include: chlorine trifluoride, a raw material that can be used as missile fuel; numerical control equipment and programs that can be used in weapons manufacturing; and valves that can be used to produce chemical weapons.
Destinations for the goods included China, Mexico and South Korea, MITI officials said.
