Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Friday it has nominated Rolf Eckrodt of DaimlerChrysler AG as chief operating officer and vice president.
The nomination by MMC's board of directors is subject to approval at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders slated for Jan. 19, 2001, the major Japanese automaker said.
Eckrodt currently heads DaimlerChrysler's railway systems subsidiary.
The German-U.S. auto giant is the largest shareholder of MMC, which is struggling to recover from an earlier coverup of customer complaints.
MMC also said it will transfer production of its Pajero iO small sport utility vehicle and Proudia and Dignity luxury passenger cars to its Okazaki plant from its Oye plant, both in Nagoya, in January.
The latter is to close during fiscal 2001, which starts next April.
