The Economic Planning Agency will likely revise the gross domestic product data for the July-September quarter from a 0.2 percent quarter-to-quarter expansion to a contraction, an EPA official acknowledged Thursday.
It will be counted as the first contraction in three quarters. The official said the downward revision became likely after the Finance Ministry on Monday released the results of a survey showing a very slight growth in capital investment for the quarter.
Preliminary GDP figures for other quarters are calculated using the ministry's data on capital investment, but the agency uses its own figures for the July-September quarter to give the government more time to draft its economic projection for the new fiscal year, which begins April 1.
