Police turned over to public prosecutors Wednesday the case of a 17-year-old boy from Tochigi Prefecture who was arrested on charges of bombing a video shop in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward.
Police arrested the boy on suspicion of violating the Firearm and Sword Possession Control Law and the Explosives Control Law.
The blast, which occurred at around 8:15 p.m. Monday, damaged the video store in the Kabukicho entertainment district, but caused no injuries.
The boy turned himself in at a nearby police post about 20 minutes after the explosion. He had a shotgun and 39 shells in his possession, as well as another bomb of the same type.
The boy allegedly indicated that he picked the video store at random. "Any place would have been OK. It took me a whole day to make up my mind," police quoted him as saying.
