Enough is hopefully enough and railway operators now hope to end the fare confusion once and for all.
Five major railway companies released Monday what they say will be the last update on newly discovered mistakes in fare tables, including many incorrect entries on Braille tables for the vision-impaired.
According to the Transport Ministry, 12 railway operators have reported mistakes in 1,846 rail section entries at tables in 799 stations as of Monday evening since East Japan Railway Co. first reported numerous mistakes Nov. 14.
JR East on Monday revised earlier figures for mistaken entries from 598 rail sections in 279 stations to 735 sections at 350 stations. In addition, it has found new mistakes in 62 entries on Braille tables at 45 stations, as well as 27 ticket vending machines in 22 stations.
All mistakes were corrected by Sunday, but the company now plans to ask groups of vision-impaired people to help improve the design of the Braille tables by checking all 830 tables by the end of March.
West Japan Railway Co. also released the latest report on mistakes in fare tables, reporting 156 new incorrect entries on tables at 83 stations. The total figure reached 699 entries at 276 stations.
JR West was to finish correcting all the mistakes by the end of Monday. But it is still checking Braille tables at stations across western Japan.
Central Japan Railway Co., Tobu Railway Co. and Tokyu Corp. also reported newfound mistakes in fare tables Monday, many of which are on Braille tables.
