The Board of Audit will set up a new division to assess the efficiency of large-scale public works projects as a part of the government's efforts to cut the fiscal deficit by reducing useless spending, government sources said Tuesday.
The new division will evaluate whether projects are necessary and recommend reforms based on its own assessments. The board currently limits its activities to ascertaining whether public works projects are carried out in accordance with the law.
The board will also establish another division to assess the settlement of the government's books, adopting measures used by public accountants.
