Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori will present silver cups to Japanese gold medalists of the Sydney Paralympic Games, including swimmer Mayumi Narita, who bagged six gold medals, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said Monday.
Mori will also present a memento to each of the 106 athletes who finished eighth place or above in their respective events, the top government spokesman said at a regular news conference.
The cups and mementos will be given to the athletes at a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on Nov. 22, Fukuda said.
Japanese athletes won 41 medals at the Sydney Paralympics -- 13 gold, 17 silver and 11 bronze -- surpassing the 37 medals won by Japan at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics.
