FUKUOKA (Kyodo The guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur arrived at Hakata port here Tuesday morning for a four-day visit that will feature exchanges with local people, prefectural officials said.

The port call of the 8,591-ton destroyer, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, will serve as an opportunity for its 311 crew members to interact with locals and do some sightseeing, according to the U.S. Navy in Japan.

During their stay, the crew will play softball with the locals and visit a welfare facility for children, navy authorities said.

The warship, which could not be docked alongside a pier because of a lack of space, dropped anchor at around 7:50 a.m. It is set to depart Friday morning.
