Olympic gold medalist Naoko Takahashi has been presented the People's Honor Award in a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
Takahashi, 28, is the 15th recipient and sixth athlete to get the award since its establishment in 1977.
She is the first woman to receive the award since the late cartoonist Machiko Hasegawa was honored in July 1992.
