The Education Ministry will inspect 50 school buildings across the nation in September to determine the level of air contamination from chemical substances used in interior construction materials, ministry sources said.

The inspection results will be used to prevent more cases of sickness caused by interior building pollutants, to determine which construction materials are inappropriate and to consider whether ventilator fans should be installed, the sources said.

The ministry decided to conduct the inspections after a group of parents whose children suffer from so-called sick-house syndrome visited the ministry in May.
