The Transport Ministry is considering filing a criminal complaint against Mitsubishi Motors Corp. for violating the Road Vehicle Law by concealing information on defective vehicles, a Transport Minister Hajime Morita said Friday.

"The Transport Ministry will soon discuss the matter with police in preparation for lodging such an accusation," Morita told a regular news conference.

The accusation, which would be filed with the Metropolitan Police Department, is expected to come as early as mid-September, according to ministry sources, and would be the first criminal charges the ministry had brought against an automaker in relation to recalls.
