Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine on Friday reiterated the prefecture's demand that the central government work toward imposing a 15-year limit on the use of a new facility for the U.S. Marine Corps to be built in Nago, Okinawa Prefecture, that will take over the helicopter operations of the Futenma Air Station in the city of Ginowan.
His comment came during the first meeting of a committee comprising the central government, the prefecture and the host municipality to discuss specifics of the alternative facility, a military-civilian airport to be built in Nago's Henoko district.
The central government has refused to address the 15-year time limit issue within the framework of the committee.
