Cellular operator J-Phone Tokyo Co. said Wednesday that the J-Phone group will launch a new service in October that automatically sends geographically specific information to the screen of smart phones.
The J-Sky Station service will be available across the country and will identify a user's location to within several hundred meters. It will then send specific information -- on areas including shops, weather, news and local events -- for that region.
Cellular phone users will also be able to play a spy simulation game in which they exchange information and instructions with servers and other players, the firm said.
J-Sky Station will be launched in the Tokyo, Kansai, Tokai, Hokkaido, Hokuriku and Kyushu region starting Oct. 1, and will be available from April in the Tohoku, Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
All information will be available for free during a trial period from Oct. 1 to Jan. 10, and some data will be offered for 100 yen a month thereafter, the company said.
