The Atomic Energy Commission said Tuesday that it will hold public hearings on Japan's long-term nuclear policy, including the planned use of plutonium-uranium mixed oxide fuel, in a bid to finalize the policy by the end of the year.
The commission, which operates under the Prime Minister's Office, said it will hold hearings in Tokyo, Fukui and Aomori prefectures in September and October on a draft it has compiled on the long-term research and development of nuclear power.
The long-term policy, which is generally reviewed every five years, will cover goals to be implemented in five to 10 years' time.
