U.S. online digital music provider MP3.com Inc. and Sony Music Entertainment Inc. said Monday they have settled the suit brought by Sony over alleged copyright infringement by the U.S. company.

The companies said delivery of SME-controlled recordings on the My.MP3.com system or via the U.S. company's Web site will resume as Sony has granted the U.S. company a license.

The use of SME recordings on the system had been suspended.

MP3.com reportedly will pay about $20 million in settlement money to Sony and start paying certain fees when the U.S. company provides SME recordings on its system.

In January, the Recording Industry Association of America filed suit against MP3.com on behalf of Sony and four other music groups over the U.S. online company's alleged copyright violation via its system.

Sony became the fourth of those five groups to settle with MP3.com.

MP3.com stores, manages, promotes and delivers digital music on its system, including the Beam-It software service.
