LDP policy chief Shizuka Kamei leads a ruling coalition mission on an inspection of the planned site of a dam along the Yoshino River. |
TOKUSHIMA (Kyodo) Policymakers from the Liberal Democratic Party, New Conservative Party and New Komeito on Monday inspected the planned site for a controversial project to build a dam with floodgates on the Yoshino River.
The group, headed by LDP policymaker Shizuka Kamei, made the inspection to help determine whether the long-stalled project should be scrapped, sources from the parties said.
Komei told a news conference following the inspection that "we must review the Construction Ministry's projects when public opinion is widely split."
