Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori's visit to Nepal next week will make significant contributions to the consolidation of Nepal-Japan bilateral ties, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said here Friday.

Mori will pay an official visit, the first-ever by an incumbent Japanese prime minister, to Nepal on Friday, the last leg of a South Asian trip that will take him to Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.

Nepal-Japan ties are based on the shared values of constitutional monarchy, a multiparty democratic system and commitment to global peace and disarmament, the premier told Katmandu-based representatives of Japanese media.

"His visit will take this relationship to greater heights," Koirala said. He said Japan has made a great contribution to Nepal's efforts to modernize over the years, adding Mori's visit is also symbolic of the goodwill and friendship existing between the people of the two countries.
