Some 25,000 people will take part and about 100 helicopters will be mobilized in an annual large-scale earthquake drill in Tokyo on Sept. 3, metropolitan government officials said Friday.

The drill will be held at 10 locations throughout Tokyo, including the downtown Ginza district, the metropolitan government building, and at Harumi Futo Park in Koto Ward. There will be traffic restrictions in these sites.

Some 7,100 members of the Self-Defense Forces will participate in the drill, on which the metropolis will spend a major part of the 300 million yen it has set aside for disaster drills this year.

To practice cooperation with prefectures in other parts of Japan in cases of serious disasters in the nation's capital, some 40 members of Fukuoka and Hiroshima Prefectural police will join in the drill, flying to Haneda airport aboard SDF C-130 cargo planes carrying medical supplies.

GSDF troops will be transported to a site in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Koto Ward aboard the Oedo Metropolitan Subway Line.
