Motorola Japan Ltd. has asked the government to order East Japan Railway Co. to reopen supply-contract bidding for next-generation automated wicket systems, saying Sony Corp. was unfairly selected, JR East and Motorola officials revealed Tuesday.
Motorola Japan, the Japanese unit of Motorola Inc. of the United States, has asked the dispute-settlement panel of the Economic Planning Agency to review the April-June bidding process for the supply of automated wicket systems. The new system will read IC-based commuter passes instantly, allowing commuters to simply show their passes to the machines.
Sony won the contract in June with a bid price of 2.8 billion yen.
