Police on Sunday arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing his former girlfriend in Ibaraki Prefecture last Wednesday after stalking her for more than a year.

Police believe Isao Kazami, 41, killed 34-year-old Kiyomi Harigae by stabbing her in the chest. They alleged that the attack took place inside a car parked on a farm road in Moriya and that Kazami then buried her body along the nearby Tone River.
Kazami, who is unemployed, was sent to a local prosecutor's office Monday.
Harigae, a company employee, complained to police in May about being stalked by Kazami, saying he frequently phoned her after they broke up in June 1999, according to police investigations.
