Japan will dispatch a government mission to Lebanon this month to explore the possibility of extending economic aid for the reconstruction of the former Israeli-occupied zone in southern Lebanon, Foreign Ministry sources said Friday.
The sources said that the mission plans to visit the Middle East country for about one week, starting Aug. 21, to discuss possible economic aid to rebuild the war-torn infrastructure and remove land mines buried in the southern Lebanon.
It will be the first time that Japan has sent such a government mission to Lebanon since Israel pulled its forces from southern Lebanon on May 24, finally acquiescing to a 22-year-old United Nations resolution.
