Payments by the state to crime victims should be increased substantially to match current wage levels, a private advisory body to the head of the National Police Agency's secretariat said in an interim report released Thursday.

The panel also suggested that a new system be created to compensate crime victims who suffered injuries or illnesses that left no serious or permanent damage.

Upon receiving Thursday's interim report, the NPA was expected to begin deliberations on specific payment figures for inclusion in its budget request package for fiscal 2001, which is to be submitted to the Finance Ministry by the end of the month.
