Bridgestone Corp. said Thursday it expects an extraordinary loss of 37.2 billion yen on a consolidated basis this business year in connection with the recall of some 6.5 million tires by its wholly owned U.S. subsidiary.
The loss is expected to reduce Bridgestone's group net profit to 67 billion yen in the year through December, 23 billion yen less than the Tokyo-based company projected last month.
Bridgestone/Firestone Inc., based in Nashville, Tenn., announced Wednesday that it is recalling about 6.5 million Firestone-brand tires, which have been linked to 193 traffic accidents including at least 46 highway deaths.
