One man was killed and six people were injured by a flash flood Sunday in Gunma Prefecture that engulfed a group of 31 hikers affiliated with a Saitama elementary school soccer team, police said.

Rescuers search for survivors of the flash flood on the Yubiso River.

The flash flood occurred on the Yubiso River at around 3:20 p.m. in the prefectural town of Minakami, at the foot of Mount Tanigawadake, police said. The river is a tributary of the Tone River.

The group of 31 -- 13 adults and 18 children -- were players and parents with the Shinmei Elementary School soccer team, from Higashi-Matsuyama, Saitama Prefecture. The group was hiking when the flood struck, rescuers said.

All the members had been found by 8 p.m.
