-- Police arrested a 21-year-old male student Saturday afternoon on suspicion of killing his 11-year-old mentally disabled brother at home and leaving the body at a nearby park.

Masaya Shirosaki, a third-year student of a private university, turned himself in at a local police station at around 4 a.m. Saturday after killing his brother, Shingo, at around 3 a.m., police said.

The police found the body of the boy at the park and arrested Shirosaki in the afternoon after questioning him about the killing.

Shirosaki told police that he killed his brother, who had Down syndrome, because he was worried about the boy's future.

According to the investigation details, Shirosaki brought the boy to a room on the second floor from the first floor, where he was sleeping with his other brother, 16, and his mother, 50. He then strangled his brother with a strap from his shoulder bag at around 3 a.m.

Shirosaki then brought the body to the park and left it on the lawn, police said.

Shirosaki, who was wearing pajamas when he carried the body to the park, tried to kill himself by cutting his wrist with a knife. After failing in the suicide attempt, he reported to the police, they said.

The boy was the youngest son of company employee Masami Shirosaki, 50, who works in Tokyo.

Because the mother is in poor health, the student was taking care of the boy, they said.
