A 58-year-old resident of Nagasaki on Thursday was issued by the government a certificate recognizing her as a victim of the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of the city.

Hideko Matsuya visited Nagasaki City Hall in the morning to receive the certificate, which qualifies her for a special medical allowance.

The city on Wednesday received the certificate from the Health and Welfare Ministry that officially recognized her eligibility Monday.

The ministry twice rejected her application for the special allowance, claiming her ailments were not related to radiation from the bombing.
