Mount Fuji can now be viewed in real time by accessing a Web site dedicated to Japan's highest and best-known mountain, the Shizuoka branch office of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corp. said Thursday.

The Web site -- www.shizuoka.isp.ntt-west.co.jp -- was set up by the office to give people a chance to see Mount Fuji. Internet users can receive zoom and panoramic views of the 3,776-meter mountain and see its crater and areas where snow remains.

The images are captured by a camera attached to the roof of a building housing a telephone exchange near the summit of the mountain, branch officials said.

They said that although large numbers of people -- more than 500 people a day -- have been going to the site, anyone can access it as long as they wait their turn. Each access lasts about 30 seconds.

NTT West is a regional subsidiary of telecommunications giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.
