The disparity in the value of one vote among the 300 single-seat districts in the House of Representatives has increased to 2.49-to-1 from last year's 2.45-to-1, according to calculations based on a demographic survey released Thursday by the Home Affairs Ministry.
The number of constituencies where the ratio exceeded 2-to-1 rose by six to 89, while the maximum vote disparity for each House of Councilors member in prefectural constituencies grew by 0.03 basis point from last year to 4.77-to-1.
Based on the survey, the highest disparity in the value of a vote was 2.487-to-1 in Kanagawa Prefecture's No. 7 district, which has a population of 592,937. In Shimane Prefecture's No. 3 district, which has a population of 238,448 residents, the ratio is 1.
