Prosecutors have decided to request a psychiatric examination be conducted on the 43-year-old nurse suspected of attempting to kill her 15-year-old daughter to claim life insurance money, sources close to the case said Friday.

The Nara District Public Prosecutor's Office is expected to ask the Nara District Court for permission to detain Yukiko Sakanaka for about three months at a medical facility for the examination, according to the sources.

The prosecutors have already sent letters to a facility in Nara Prefecture requesting permission to admit Sakanaka, the sources said.

The prosecutors decided to request the tests because Sakanaka has repeatedly made conflicting statements to investigators, the sources said.
