Experts at a Tokyo-based think tank have recently issued a five-point proposal to bring about stability on the Korean Peninsula, calling on the Japanese government to clarify its policies toward North Korea.
The experts at the Tokyo Foundation, led by Hajime Izumi, professor of international relations at Shizuoka Prefectural University, cited the need to adjust the country's policies in the wake of the inter-Korean summit held last month in Pyongyang, which "marked the start of a new phase in situations concerning the peninsula."
The proposal calls for the government to clarify its basic stance on reconciliation and unification of the two Koreas and to state Tokyo's bottom line in bilateral negotiations with Pyongyang.
