Heavy rain was expected to continue falling over large parts of Japan early today, with rainfall of up to 200 mm forecast for some areas in Hokkaido and southern Kyushu, the Meteorological Agency said.

The agency called for precautions because the active rain front is expected to affect areas facing the Pacific Ocean from Hokkaido to the Kanto region, as well as the southern part of Kyushu.

As of 4 a.m. Wednesday, 442 mm of rain had been recorded in Kanoya, Kagoshima Prefecture, more than 100 mm in Hokkaido and 93 mm in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, the agency said.
