The Posts and Telecommunications Ministry on Wednesday commissioned an advisory panel to compile a report on the desired future structure of the nation's telecom industry.
The Telecommunications Council was asked to compile a final report in two years with an eye to revising the law regulating the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone group, but the council may release an interim report on some issues much earlier.
"By January, we will decide what should be decided to some extent and hand it over to a new council," said council chairman Sho Nasu, who is also a top adviser to Tokyo Electric Power Co.
