Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine expressed delight Sunday that the Group of Eight summit in his prefecture proved successful.

"There were many different ways in which the (G8) leaders individually took part in cultural exchanges with the local people," Inamine said after the three-day event ended just before noon Sunday.

He said, "We were able to introduce Okinawa's culture and art during a reception by the prefecture, and included local goods in gifts" to the top G8 leaders.

On Okinawa's burden of hosting U.S. bases, Inamine expressed confidence that Japanese awareness of the issue has been increased, because many people signed up for a press tour of U.S. bases and tourist spots.
