The 43-year-old nurse arrested Sunday for allegedly trying to kill her daughter to collect insurance money is also suspected of attempting to kill her parents, Nara Prefectural Police sources said Friday.
Yukiko Sakanaka was named as the beneficiary of her parents' multimillion-yen insurance policies and her parents also suffered symptoms similar to her daughter's, the sources said.
The 66-year-old mother of the former assistant nurse at Municipal Yamashiro Hospital in Kizu, Kyoto Prefecture, was hospitalized in June after suddenly experiencing a rapid pulse and trembling hands.
The symptoms are similar to those suffered by the suspect's 15-year-old daughter, who was allegedly fed the asthma drug salbutamol sulfate by her mother in an attempt to kill her, the sources said.
